I would say that I am semi-knowledgeable about different technologies. I understand and can use Power Point, Publisher, Excel, and Word. I can also use Photoshop. I have made a couple websites using templates. I have used the document projectors that have been in classrooms for awhile.
Some things that I would like to work on is to become more familiar with the SMARTboard and the different things you can use with that. I would also like to be able to use more with websites and blogging. I think that it could be very beneficial to my students and parents when I become a teacher. At this point in time, I not sure what other educational technologies are out there that I could use. I would like to become familiar with as many different technologies as possible and then also be able to use them as well.
I think that technology should play a part in education. Especially in these days where students are becoming more and more technologically wise. Since they are becoming technology savy, they are then in need to having education brought to them in a way that they would enjoy. I do not think that technology should take over education. For example, in math, I still believe that students should learn how to do certain math techniques by hand and the long way before they then learn how to use calculators. They need to be able to work the problems without a calculator if by chance they forget their calculator or it stops working. I think in some ways technology does aid learning; calculators help students to do math easier and faster. However, it also hinders learning because if they rely completely on technology they won't actually learn how to do it themselves.
1. Design, develop, and test a digital learning game to demonstrate knowledge and skills
related to curriculum content. (1, 4):
Students are to create a math game that shows the different techniques they are working on. Said game can help them practice these techniques so that they better their skills. This game could take on several different shapes and kinds depending on the student's preferences.
7. Design a Web site that meets accessibility requirements. (1, 5)
Students create a website that is appropriate for each subject and student. It could be a blog where they can post different assignments on it. Or they could create a webpage as a presentation for different types of information. They could create a webpage on a certain mathematician or math technique. They can use webpage templates and use Google pages to publish them.
9. Create media-rich presentations for other students on the appropriate and ethical use of
digital tools and resources. (1, 5)
Students are to make a presentation using different types of technology: media: music and pictures, different webpages, power point, etc. They can also use these to make a presentation on certain topics that are being taught in the classroom. They can demonstrate different math techniques with their own presentations.
Technology will most likely play a part in education from this point onward. We as teachers need to provide students with assignments that can further their knowledge on different types of technologies. If I am to teach my students different skills concerning technology, I need to be knowledgeable in these skills as well.
