Assignment #3: The SMARTboard

My Activity

The SMARTboard activity that I found is designed for a 10th grade math class. I think that it probably could be used for younger grades because it has seemed that I learned Powers at a younger grade. I think that this is a good activity because it includes student involvement and it also includes animations that help make the different concepts clearer to understand. I think that one thing that I would change is not using such high of exponents on the practice pages if this is the first time students have ever done exponents. Overall though, I do believe this is a good activity for the students to use.

Preparation: Change some of the examples to not as high of exponents, start with a brief lesson on powers so that the class will have some understanding about the powers before they start the activity
Class Involvement: Have students volunteer to practice different problems-a student for each row-with so many example problems most of the class will be able to participate; then different volunteers for the SNAP activity
Assessment: At the end of this activity, practice worksheets would be handed out for students to practice individually.

NETS: 1.A, 1.C, 4.A, 4.C,
Grade Level 10:
EALR: 1. The student understands and applies the concepts and procedures of mathematics.
Component: 1.5 Understand and apply concepts and procedures from algebraic sense.
