Is the whole observation thing really worth my time? So far I have done nothing. I go two hours a day for two days. And on each day one of those hours the class is in the computer lab. So all I can do is sit there. Most students don't even ask questions so even if I wanted to, I couldn't do that. The other two classes are the typical math classes. I did get to help answer some questions finally on Tuesday. The only problem was they were "log" problems which I haven't done in forever so i don't even remember them fully.
I haven't been able to connect with any of the students. I observe each class only once a week. We are encouraged to learn names but when the teacher doesn't even call the names its hard.
I don't know. Maybe as time goes on I'll be able to do more and get involved but it does make me question whether or not the time of driving there and back and the time there is really worth it.

Hey Breanne. I'm sorry observations have been a drag. There have been times where I blanked out, because I was not doing anything, but I am usually doing something. I am struggling with some of the kids names also. Would any of your cooperating teachers let you work with maybe a group of students struggling? Are any of the classes doing work besides log problems or things you have not done in a while? If I am not mistaken, we are allowed to work with students as long as we are not alone with them or introducing a new lesson. You have my sympathies with the driving mileage. I have to drive from Edmonds to Kirkland for my morning classes then go to Edmonds, then go back to Kirkland for the rest of my classes, then go home to Edmonds, so I feel your pain. ;)
I empathize 100%. I actually just posted a blog about this 10 minutes ago. Today was my last day of observations, and I feel no more prepared or connected than I did at the beginning of the semester. I'm in the same situation, where I go when my cooperating teachers are not really teaching; it's just silent reading or a vocab test or a work day. ... You posted this in February; do you still feel this way?
