Talking with my Teacher

Thursday when I went for my observations, my cooperating teacher, Ms. B. and I had some time to talk. Her vice-principal had observed her teaching in the last couple of days. Some of the things that she was told is that she shouldn't spend so much time working out problems on the board and have the students come up and work on the problems instead. As she pointed out, doing it that way takes a lot more time out of the lesson than if she just did them. I'm not sure which way would be better. I think that having the students work on the problems will help them learn to do the problems better but as Ms. B. pointed out, that does take more time. When your class is only 50 minutes long, you do want to be able to get the most out of the time as possible. I think instead of having the students coming up, that the problems could be given so that the students can work on them at their desks instead of having to get up in front of the class.

Another one of the issues that was pointed out is that Ms. B. should use the document projector more and the projector less. Ms. B. has been teaching for 25 years and talks continually about how she doesn't know how to use technology. So this fact made her a little wary. She apparently tried to come up with a couple reasons why she should use the projector instead but her vice-principal came up with defenses.
It'll be interesting to see as time goes on if she does start to use these methods or stick to what she has been doing.

Hmmmm, maybe she should read, Engage me or enrage me. I am kind of concerned with the fact that she is so worried with taking up class time with an activity that her students will most likely greatly benefit from.
